Hoya Carnosa Eskimo – Ø 6cm

7,99

Hoya eskimo, also known as Hoya Carnosa Eskimo, is a charming and popular variety of Hoya appreciated for its attractive foliage and delicate blooms. This compact succulent vine is a favorite among plant enthusiasts due to its unique leaf texture and clusters of lovely flowers.

The leaves of Hoya eskimo are small, waxy, and oval-shaped. They have a distinctive variegation pattern, featuring a combination of green, cream, and white markings. The variegation resembles speckles or splashes, giving the leaves a whimsical appearance.

While Hoya eskimo is primarily admired for its foliage, it also produces beautiful clusters of star-shaped flowers. The blooms emerge from the leaf axils and can be fragrant, adding to the plant’s allure. The flowers are typically white or pale pink, accentuating the overall aesthetic appeal of the plant.

    Care/Details

In terms of care, Hoya eskimo thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. It prefers well-draining soil and should be watered moderately, allowing the top inch or so of soil to dry out between waterings. As a succulent vine, it appreciates drier conditions compared to some other houseplants.

Hoya eskimo can be grown in hanging baskets or trained to climb on supports, making it a versatile choice for indoor gardens. Its compact size and relatively slow growth make it suitable for smaller spaces or as part of a diverse plant arrangement.

Environment – Hoyas prefer a bright environment with indirect light. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight, especially during the intense afternoon sun. The recommended temperature range for Hoyas is between 18 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Watering – Water your Hoya thoroughly, but allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings. Check if the top inch of soil feels dry before watering again. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. During the winter months, when the plant is in a period of rest, reduce the frequency of watering.

Humidity – Hoyas generally tolerate average household humidity, but they appreciate slightly higher humidity levels. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves or placing a tray of water near the plant. Alternatively, using a humidifier in the room can provide a more humid environment.

Soil – Use a well-draining potting mix for Hoyas. A mixture containing peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark or pumice works well. Good drainage is essential to prevent waterlogged soil.

Pruning – Prune your Hoya occasionally to maintain its shape and promote bushier growth. Trim back leggy or overly long vines to encourage a more compact appearance. When necessary, remove any dead or yellowing leaves or stems. Spring or early summer is the best time for pruning.

Fertilizer – Feed your Hoya with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the active growth period (spring and summer). The plant will not absorb fertilizer as readily during the winter months when growth slows down, so you can reduce or halt fertilization during this time.

Support – Many Hoyas are vining plants that benefit from some form of support. Provide a trellis, moss pole, or other support structure for your Hoya to climb on. Guide the vines gently toward the support as they grow, helping them attach and climb.
