€500,00 €700,00
Meet the rare Alocasia Black Velvet Variegata, showcasing stunning golden variegation. As the leaves mature, they develop into a vibrant deep yellow. New leaves may start off darker green, but with plenty of light, they’ll brighten up beautifully. The pictures highlight the older leaves, which display their rich colour. This batch of plants has strong variegation qualities, making it a safer choice when selecting strong genetics.
If you love aurea varieties, this Black Velvet is an excellent choice.
Just a heads-up: new leaves may have sprouted since these photos were taken. However, the plant you receive will match the one shown for products marked with RB serial numbers, which are unique to each batch. Choose your favourite plant: RB21-1, RB21-2, or RB21-3.
Care/Details
This Alocasia variety thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate partial shade. It prefers slightly moist soil and regular watering, allowing the top inch or so of soil to dry out between waterings.
It’s worth noting that Alocasias requires a bit more attention and care compared to some other houseplants. It appreciates a well-draining soil mix and should not be overwatered, as this can lead to root rot. Providing adequate airflow around the plant and roots is also essential to prevent excess moisture buildup and maintain leaf and root health.
- Environment – This Alocasia variety thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate partial shade. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight during the hottest months.
- Watering – Water your Alocasia once a week, ensuring you don’t overwater. Allow the plant to absorb water within a few hours, and if any remains, pour it out. For mid-size pots (10-12 cm), use about 100-200 ml of water; for mini plants (6 cm), around 50 ml is sufficient. After a few days, you’ll notice the soil starting to dry out; wait a day or two before watering again. In winter, when the plant’s growth slows down, you can extend the watering interval to about 14 days. Alocasias prefer slightly moist soil and require a well-draining mix. Be careful not to overwater, as this can cause root rot. Good airflow around the plant and its roots is essential to prevent excess moisture buildup and keep the leaves and roots healthy.
- Leaves care – It’s normal for outer leaves to turn yellow over time. Wait until the leaf stem loosens slightly before carefully removing it to avoid harming the plant. If you notice the leaves dripping, it may be due to overwatering or higher temperatures – this is not unusual.
- Fertilizer – Feed your Alocasia once a month during the spring and summer. In winter, when the plant is less active, it won’t absorb fertilizer as effectively, so you can skip it during this time.
