Care/Details
They prefer well-drained soil and partial shade, making them popular as houseplants or in shaded garden beds. Especially in small pots, this plant requires a green thumb, and experiences higher growth in spring and summer than in winter. Some Caladium only keeps few leaves during month with less sun, however, at House of Botanique, all plants are shipped with a higher number of leaves, like you see in the pictures.
- Environment – Ideally placed in a light environment, however, not in direct sun during months with strong sunshine. Temperatures between 18 to 30 degrees Celsius are recommended.
- Watering – Water once a week and make sure not to overwater, let the plant absorb all water within a few hours. If any water is left, you should pour the rest out. Try with 100-200 ml for midsize pots (10-12 ø cm pots) and 50 ml for mini plants (6cm). After a period of days, the soil will start to dry up, here you shall water the plant right away.
- Leaves care – It is common for outer leaves to become yellow at some point, wait for the leaf stem to loosen slightly from the plant before removal, do this with care to avoid harming the plant. Caladium quickly re-generate new leaves when kept in the right environment, therefor, older leaves are also replaced regularly.
- Fertilizer – This can be administered once monthly during spring and summer periods. During winter the plant is not as likely to endure growth, therefore, the plant will not absorb the fertilizer.
