Caring for the Philodendron Squamiferum x Serpens is simple with the right setup. Here’s how to help it grow well:
- Light – Place it in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage the leaves. In low light, growth may slow down.
- Watering – Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy, and make sure the pot has good drainage.
- Humidity – This plant enjoys higher humidity. Mist the leaves occasionally or place it near a humidifier if the air is dry.
- Temperature – Keep it in a warm spot between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden changes in temperature.
- Soil – Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally one made for aroids. The roots like airflow and don’t do well in compact soil.
- Fertilising – Feed lightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season. Hold off in cooler months when growth slows down.
- Support – Give it a moss pole or trellis. As a natural climber, it will use the support to grow taller and display its beautiful, fuzzy petioles and foliage.
